The Link-It Club: Creating new opportunities on LinkedIn

This is the success story of The Link-It Club and how a group 10 self-employed business owners activated their LinkedIn pages with 207 new followers, 137,923 views and 2,124 engagements in a single month.

The brief

A quick overview of The Link-It Club: It’s a private community of up to 10 like-minded people – freelancers, self-employed folk, founders and business owners – who come together for an initial three-month membership.

In that three months you’ll receive the accountability, confidence, knowledge, tools, processes, and inspiration you need to make your LinkedIn a success.

That includes actionable resources, well thought-out post prompts, group drop-in sessions, and lots more.

I’m there all the way, sharing everything I know and the things I’ve done to make my LinkedIn a success – both as an experienced social media manager and solo business owner – to help others create new connections and new opportunities.

I set the first group up in late 2024, and this is the story of that.

Group success (in one month)

207 new followers
137,923 post views
2,124 engagements

Beyond the numbers

While the numbers show the numerical growth, they don’t capture everything that was achieved in a single month.

First off, every single person in The Link-It Club grew their confidence and increased their knowledge to be at ease with using LinkedIn effectively every day.

Exploring, posting, commenting, connecting and even direct messaging… all members overcame anything and everything that was holding them back to become active on LinkedIn.

And that resulted in success:

  • One person had three new enquiries, one of which resulted in a new client.
  • One person had a direct message from someone who they had previously pitched to, asking to restart the proposal conversation.
  • One person appeared on a podcast following a conversation in the comments section on LinkedIn with the podcast host.
  • And another person, who compared the group to therapy, was stopped by a colleague who told them how much they love seeing their posts on LinkedIn.

What the members said

Here’s what three people who have been a part of The Link-It Club had to say about it:

“I’m so thankful for the support and strategic guidance Ryan has provided, not only in what and how to post but also how to actually be social and network too! In January (the first month working with Ryan), which is supposedly a quiet month, I received three enquiries from business owners wanting to work with me. It’s no coincidence that it’s the month I have been most active! Thank you so much.”
– Emma, Virtual Assistant

“Ryan’s approach is just spot on. The perfect blend of support and nudging when needed. Really great hints and tips, and insight into how LinkedIn really works – I’ve been using it for years but have learnt so much thanks to Ryan’s knowledge and help. I’ve also loved having the mutual support from other members. It’s a win-win from me!”
– Duncan, Strategic Advisor

“Before joining Ryan’s Link-It Club, I was a LinkedIn lurker – watching from the sidelines but rarely posting. Now, thanks to his practical advice and supportive coaching, I feel I’m becoming a LinkedIn leader, sharing content with confidence. Ryan’s tips are actionable, insightful, and genuinely make a difference. I’d highly recommend this to any founders, freelancers, or business owners looking to make LinkedIn work for them!”
– Jo, Communications Leader

Why I set the The Link-It Club up

Rewind to 11th October 2023.

My daughter was three months old. My wife was on maternity leave. I was working in-house as a social media manager at a law firm.

Well I was, until that date: 11th October 2023. As that’s the date I was handed my confirmation of redundancy.

Despite my young family relying on that income, there was no need to panic. You see, I’d been active on LinkedIn for 18 months before that date.

Sharing my thoughts, expertise and experiences. Growing my network and relationships. And creating new opportunities.

Little did I know, that activity would end up saving my arse. And it really did.

By January 2024 – three months after my redundancy confirmation – my diary was completely full with contracted clients, and my business as a solo social media manager was a go.

Now I want to share with you everything I did, for you to make your LinkedIn a success and create new opportunities – before you need them.

Join The Link-It Club

Fearful of putting ourselves out there, unsure how to write posts effectively, of the belief we’ve got nothing interesting to say… the majority of us spend our time on LinkedIn lurking in the background.

That’s where The Link-It Club comes in – your LinkedIn safe space. It’s a place to grow your knowledge and confidence, get ideas and share ideas, discuss your LinkedIn stresses and successes, and surround yourself with other people who are here for the same reason.

The Link-It Club is for you if:

  • You have a LinkedIn profile but it doesn’t represent you well or tell your story

  • You don’t know how to grow your network on LinkedIn or where to start
  • You’re committed to becoming more active on LinkedIn and posting more often to create new opportunities
